Most of these links are news stories from December 2009 to April 2010 following Facebook’s private policy changes, the reaction from the public, and Facebook’s revision of their private policy. Links 1and 2 are important because they layout Facebook’s private policy and they spell out the statement of rights and responsibilities. To summarize these links into one sentence: The individual is responsible for what they post on Facebook.

Also, number 3, 5, 6, and 9 are article that takes issues about individual privacy on Facebook. Link 5 states that Facebook is widely used by students and it strongly impacts all students’ social lives. Facebook gives students a false sense of privacy- even if they set their profile to private; the content they post is still accessible because nothing is completely private on the internet (especially on a social networking site). Students need to be responsible and be careful what they post. Some admissions offices in universities peruse students’ Facebook profiles before accepting them into their school. Link 6 reported a private policy group that was preparing to file a federal complaint against Facebook’s new privacy policies back in February. Mark Zuckerberg, who is a creator of Facebook, posted a blog as his response to the complaints and Facebook groups protesting the new policies. He mentions that Facebook users are responsible for the content they post, and if the user wants something to be truly private, they should not post it.

Link 9 is about lawsuit filed with Facebook. This time by the U.S. District Court for the North District of California and it: “alleges that the modifications have in reality reduced privacy protections for Facebook users rather than increasing it, as the company had claimed it would.”

Link 4, 7, and 10 are about the media policies and laws that related to privacy issues. Link 4 is a nonprofit consumer organization and they are posting updated news or information about individual privacy issue. Although it’s more about consumer privacy, they also describe online media and those privacies. Link 7 discusses what rights we have in general and it also showed the cases caused by the trouble of protection of privacy. Link 10 gives the news of privacies related to the social media emphasizing on the websites that most people using today such as Facebook, Google Buzz, or Twitter.

Overall, based on these sources we will discuss our statement about privacy.
